1. Call for applications: Olomouc Weapons Law Course 2026 (Ołomuniec, wrzesień 2026 r.)

Centre for International Humanitarian and Operational Law, działające przy Wydziale Prawa Uniwersytetu Palackiego w Ołomuńcu, organizuje w dniach 14-18 września br. Olomouc Weapons Law Course 2026.

Z opisu kursu:

When a crisis leads to warfare, it is the law of armed conflict that determines how the hostilities can be conducted and which weapons can be used. Some of the detailed rules of the law of armed conflict prohibit particular weapons entirely while other rules limit the situations in which other weapons can be used. Unsurprisingly, the law requires states to assess the weapons they plan to acquire in order to determine whether their intended uses will be lawful. Making those determinations is a skilled task that has profound implications for the security of the State, indeed for its very ability to defend itself. It is vitally important therefore that the personnel who conduct these weapon reviews are suitably knowledgeable. Participants in this Weapons Law course will receive expert instruction on all the principles and rules of this important area of law and will discuss how the law applies to the full range of weapon technologies from the most traditional to the most modern.

The Course involves periods of lecture interspersed with seminar discussions in which the participants go into smaller groups to discuss pre-set problem scenarios. The solutions of each work group are then presented in plenary and are discussed. The purpose of this approach is to ensure that each element of the course is fully understood by all of the participants. It is a step by step approach that is intended to help each participant to learn at his or her own pace.

Opłata za udział w wydarzeniu wynosi 1200 euro (1100 euro przy wpłacie do 1 czerwca).

1. Call for papers: Symposium on the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine – Critical Perspectives on Foundations

Völkerrechtsblog zaprasza do udziału w Symposium on the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine – Critical Perspectives on Foundations.

Teksty mogą dotyczyć m.in. następujących zagadnień:

• The Tribunal’s jurisdictional framework, including its ratione personae and ratione materiae limitations, and its dependence on state referral mechanisms;
• The legal character of the Tribunal as a hybrid, international or internationalised court, and the implications of this characterisation for the applicability of immunities under international law;
• The contribution of Ukrainian and Eastern European perspectives to ongoing debates on accountability for the crime of aggression;
• The extent to which the Tribunal’s institutional design reflects, modifies, or departs from existing models of international criminal adjudication;
• The role of state support and participation in shaping the Tribunal’s claim to represent the international community;
• The interaction between legal argument and broader theoretical frameworks, including international relations and “just war” thinking; and
• The Tribunal’s relationship with the ICC, including questions of complementarity, coordination, and potential normative fragmentation.
