3. Call for papers: Multilateral cooperation and transnational legal integration (Lizbona, październik 2022 r.)

W dniach 13-14 października br. w Lizbonie odbędzie się Católica Graduate Legal Research Conference 2022 pt. „Multilateral cooperation and transnational legal integration”.

Przykładowe tematy wystąpień to:

1. Conceptual and practical models for international cooperation at the public and private level (international institutionalism, self-regulatory practices, etc.);

2. International regulation of financial and banking businesses;

3. Humanitarian aid and use of cooperative forms of police and military action;

4. Regulation and cooperation in health policy and businesses;

5. International sales of goods and related transactions;

6. International data transfers and protection of consumers;

7. Regulation of online commerce, digital platforms, technological developments;

8. Judiciary cooperation and international adjudication of disputes at a civil, commercial and criminal level.

Zgłoszenia (abstrakt do 500 słów wraz z notką biograficzną do 100 słów) należy przesyłać do 31 maja br.

4. Call for applications: 10th University of Tartu Summer School on International Law (Tartu, lipiec 2022 r.)

W dniach 25-29 lipca br. w Tartu odbędzie się po raz dziesiąty Summer School on International Law.

Opłata za udział w zajęciach to 50 euro; koszt zakwaterowania w dwuosobowym pokoju przez pięć dni wynosi 150 euro.

5. Call for papers: The Value(s) of the European Convention on Human Rights (Birmingham, wrzesień 2022 r.)

W dniach 8-9 września br. w Birmingham odbędą się warsztaty pt. „The Value(s) of the European Convention on Human Rights”.

Wystąpienia powinny przedstawiać odpowiedzi na następujące zagadnienia:

• What are the purposes of the Convention and to what extent has the ECtHR been successful in achieving such purposes? What is the standard against which we should assess the successes and failures of the ECtHR?
• To what extent has the role of the Convention changed in recent years and what consequences does that have on the doctrines of the ECtHR? How can the ECtHR preserve and maintain the value of the Convention in present circumstances?
• To what extent are fundamental values from the Convention universal? To what extent are such values different from the values that are protected in other regional or global systems of human rights protection? To what extent should the value-based reasoning of the Court be informed by contingent circumstances?
• Where does the normativity of values from the Convention come from? Are they best thought of as objective and external to legal practice or are they partly constructed or generated in the process of legal reasoning? To what extent should the ECtHR rely on value-based reasoning and to what extent it can or should avoid it?
• What is the communal dimension of the fundamental values behind the Convention? Are there some evaluative commitments or duties arising from the membership in a community of value established by the Convention that exist in addition to the protection of substantive values from the Convention?
• What are the evaluative assumptions presupposed by the key doctrines of the ECtHR, such as European consensus, margin of appreciation, public order, democratic society, autonomous concepts? How does the use of proportionality analysis by the ECtHR affect its understanding of values from the Convention?
