Redakcja Yearbook on the Law of the Sea zaprasza do przesyłania zgłoszeń do kolejnego numeru czasopisma (vol. 2), który będzie koncentrował się na tematyce "Fisheries and the Law of the Sea in the Anthropocene Era".
Teksty powinny dotyczyć przynajmniej jednego z następujących "wymiarów":
● environmental dimension, and in particular the impact of fishing and fishing related activities on the marine environment, including its marine living resources and ecosystems. The scope of this dimension also includes the impact of climate change on fisheries, and the tension existing between fisheries offences and environmental crimes (e.g., the use of destructive fishing practices), especially in the context of the duty of all States to protect and preserve the marine environment, and recent discussions on the crime of ‘ecocide.’
● human rights dimension, including the use of force in fisheries enforcement operations, inhuman punishment for fisheries violations, modern slavery, child labour, discrimination and gender equality, and human rights abuses at sea. The scope of this dimension also includes maritime safety issues related to the fishery sector, and in particular the way existing international law instruments such as the ILO Work in Fishing Convention, 2007 (No. 188), and the Cape Town Agreement of 2012 on the Implementation of the Provisions of the Torremolinos Protocol of 1993 can contribute to addressing these issues.
● security dimension, and in particular the interlink between Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing and crimes of trans-national nature, such as illegal trade of protected species, drug trafficking, maritime terrorism, piracy and armed robbery at sea, in line with paragraph 107 of UNGA resolution A/RES/76/71. The scope of this dimension also includes the legal and diplomatic implications of fishing activities conducted in disputed maritime areas, and the way such activities may contribute to jeopardising the reaching of a final delimitation agreement under Articles 74 and 83 of UNCLOS.
● socio-economic dimension, and in particular how international law addresses problems of overfishing and food security, forced migration, the fisheries interests of indigenous Call for Papers ASCOMARE Yearbook (Vol.2): Fisheries and the Law of the Sea in the Anthropocene Era https://ascomare.com/ylos-volume-2/ communities, access to fishing grounds by neighbouring landlocked and geographically disadvantaged States, and fisheries subsides (especially in the context of the ongoing WTO negotiations). The scope of this dimension also includes an examination of practical challenges, best practices and opportunities connected with the use of new economic models, such as the so called ‘Blue Economy.’
● regional dimension, including the role and expanding mandate of Regional Fisheries Management Organizations (RFMOs), and the way States bordering enclosed/semienclosed seas coordinate the management, conservation, exploration and exploitation of the living resources of the sea (Article 123(a) UNCLOS). The scope of this dimension also covers the examination of practical challenges, best practices and opportunities of harmonising fisheries rules at sovra-national level, such as for the Caribbean Community Common Fisheries Policy, or the Common Fisheries Policy of the European Union.
● spatial dimension, focusing on maritime spatial planning, as well as on the tension existing between fisheries and other uses of the sea, such as navigation, digital connectivity (submarine cables), marine scientific research, hydrocarbon activities, including activities in the Area, the production of energy by the sea (e.g., offshore windfarms) and military exercises. The scope of this dimension also includes the examination of the interlink between fisheries and bioprospecting, including the access and benefit sharing for marine genetic resources in areas beyond national jurisdiction (BBNJ), especially in the context of the ongoing inter-governmental negotiations for a BBNJ multilateral instrument.

W dniach 1-2 czerwca br. w Kopenhadze odbędzie się IV TRAMEREN’s International Conference on Enhancing Climate Action beyond the State.
Wydarzenie będzie koncentrować się wokół sześciu obszarów tematycznych:
1) Business, Industry and Finance The first session will delve into the question of how businesses and industry can contribute to climate action. It will address issues such as the renewable energy transition, sustainable procurement and eco-friendly infrastructure, exploring how companies can lead the transition to less carbon-intensive models of production and consumption. Contributions are welcome also on climate change finance, due diligence and reporting, directors’ responsibility, and shareholder activism.
2) Regional/International Organizations and Regimes This session will explore the role of regional/international organizations and regimes in enhancing climate action. Themes under this session could include the role of international organizations, such as the WTO, OECD, UNCTAD, and other UN agencies and multilateral development banks, and regional organizations such as the EU.
3) Sub-state governments, cities and municipalities Session three will address issues of sub-state governance, in particular how cities, regional governments, and municipalities contribute to climate action, for example through sustainable urban mobility and city planning.
4) Courts This session will focus on climate litigation, including how courts can hold governments and companies accountable for their (in)actions on the basis of human rights law. The session will discuss the types of climate obligations that courts distilled from human rights and other bodies of law, the reception of climate-friendly judgments by states and other stakeholders, as well as obstacles and prospects in climate litigation in years to come.
5) Civil Society, universities and epistemic communities Session five will cover how civil society can enhance climate action, inter alia by giving voice to marginalized groups and providing a shared space to bridge the gap between citizens and national institutions. The session will also address how universities and epistemic communities are fostering climate action through, inter alia, knowledge sharing and capacity development.
6) Shipping This session will be devoted to shipping, highlighting the contribution of international shipping to global climate change and opportunities for regulating the sector. The increasing awareness amongst stakeholders that action must be taken to decarbonize the sector has led to a number of development driven by the industry. Initiatives such as the green shipping corridors planned by the Clydebank declaration, the Just Transition Maritime Task Force and the Poseidon Principles are examples of these developments. The session will consider both bottom up and top down modes of regulation, taking account of recent developments in the field.
